Thanks for volunteering with the Brighton Allston Food Pantry! All shifts are held at the Brighton Allston Congregational Church, 404 Washington Street, Brighton MA 02135.

Please sign up for the specific shift(s) you can attend below, as well as how many people you'll be bringing with you.

Volunteer shifts might look different from our typical shifts due to ongoing building repairs. Once we are in full operations again we will send out an announcement. Please see more details on our website www.abfoodpantry.com

Re-Opening Shifts

As we begin our reopening phase we need the support of volunteers to help reorganize our spaces and prepare for our Wednesday and Saturday distribution.

Things like reorganizing our pantry, throwing away unused items, revamping our dining space, and supporting our back end food pantry needs are part of these shifts.

We ask that volunteers that sign up for these shifts wear closed toed shoes, comfortable clothing, and wear a mask as we will be working inside the building.

Reopening Shifts 1st week of June Wed June 3: 12 - 2pm Thurs June 4: 12 - 2pm Friday June 5: 12 - 2pm

General Help

Outdoor Distribution: We will be continuing our outdoor distribution on Wednesday and Friday up until our first Wednesday Supper on June 17th. This will be outdoor only so please dress for the weather. Unloading delivery trucks and organizing produce for immediate distribution Wed June 3: 10 - 12pm Friday June 5: 11 - 12:30pm Wed June 10: 10 - 12pm Friday June 12: 11 - 12:30pm

Food Truck Delivery: On the first Tuesday of the month, we need assistance unloading the delivery of food from the Food Bank. The shift lasts from 2-4 pm. This is one of our most urgent needs, and a great opportunity for groups. Food Truck Delivery: Tuesday June 2: 2pm-4pm

Tuesday Kitchen: prepping our hot meals for our Wednesday Supper. Any experience in the kitchen is much appreciated! Tuesday Kitchen June 16:10-12pm Tuesday Kitchen June 23:10-12pm Tuesday Kitchen June 30:10-12pm

Food Pantry Fridays! Help with general food pantry operational tasks and put together food baskets for our Saturday distribution. Truck Unloading: Friday June 12: 11-1pm Basket Making: Friday June 12: 1pm-3pm Truck Unloading: Friday June 26: 11-1pm Basket Making: Friday June 26: 1pm-3pm

Outdoor Community Fridge: restocking and cleaning. Our 24/7 outdoor community fridge is a mutual aid effort to provide food at all times. It is open to neighbors to receive and donate food items. I am interested and will email volunteer@brightonallstonucc.org for separate sign up

Food Pickup: local food pickup and dropoff at church. Must have a vehicle able to hold up to 10 banana boxes. I am interested and will email volunteer@brightonallstonucc.org for separate sign up

Thrift Store

Thursday Thrift store and Saturday Thrift store are run by Thrift Store Captains and Liz King.

Thrift Store THURS: Organize through donated items and tidy up our thrift store during closing hours, which directly supports our food pantry. Shifts go from 5pm to 7pm. Please bring a snack if you can! Thrift Store: Thurs June 4: 5pm - 7pm Thrift Store: Thurs June 11: 5pm - 7pm Thrift Store: Thurs June 18: 5pm - 7pm Thrift Store: Thurs June 25: 5pm - 7pm

Thrift Store SAT: Organize through donated items and run our thrift store, which directly supports our food pantry. Shifts go from 11am to 3pm. Thrift Store: Sat June 6: 11-3pm Thrift Store: Sat June 13: 11-3pm Thrift Store: Sat June 20: 11-3pm Thrift Store: Sat June 27: 11-3pm

Wednesday Supper and Saturday Distribution

Every Wednesday, we hold a community supper for guests to get a hot meal and emergency groceries.
Wednesday include:
a prep shift from 10am-2pm
a supper shift from 2:30pm-6pm

On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, we hold a food distribution where families can get baskets of groceries and shop at our thrift store.

Saturday include:
a prep shift from 8:30am to 10am
a distribution shift from 10am to 1:00pm

Community Suppers: We receive two food trucks, sort over 150 bags of groceries, prepare 200 hot meals, and serve our community from 3-6pm. Wed June 17: 10am-2pm Wed June 17: 2:30-6pm Wed June 24: 10am-2pm Wed June 24: 2:30-6pm

We're building out our committee and need help beyond hands-on labor such as planning, organizing, and improving how we run things behind the scenes. If you’re interested in helping shape our workflow or have creative ideas, we’d love to have you on board!
Fundraising for our Pantry

Volunteers work to write grants and plan events to raise funds for our food pantry. Committees typically meet virtually once per month and have tasks to complete asynchronously.

We are looking for volunteers who can help digitally such as providing language translations and more as we grow

Common FAQs

Do I need to be there for my entire shift?
No, if you have other committments or can only participate for a certain length of time thats okay!

Can I get my hours verified?
Yes you can! Please email volunteer@brightonallstonucc.org for more information on log sheets and letterheads.

What if my schedule changes and I can't show up for my shift?
That is okay! Life happens just please email us if you are unable to show up for your shift.

Is there training if it is my first time?
Yes, staff and other long-term volunteers are here to help you!

What should I bring with me?
Comfortable clothes, water bottle, closed-toed shoes, and a positive attitude!

What should I do when I arrive?
-Please make sure to fill out the 2026 Volunteer Waiver form (physical or QR code) if you have not already done so.
-Please check in on our ipad when you arrive.
-Name tags are located on the table. Name and pronouns please.
